Harrells, NC – May 21, 2024—Harrells Christian Academy (HCA) is excited to announce that Mr. Jim Morris, a high school science teacher and coach with an exceptional life story, will be the keynote speaker for the Class of 2024 Commencement Ceremony. The ceremony will take place on Thursday night, May 23.
Jim Morris is widely known for his remarkable journey to Major League Baseball at the age of 35, a story that inspired the unforgettable Disney movie “The Rookie,” starring Dennis Quaid. The film depicts his incredible rise to become a Major League pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays, where he threw pitches at 102 miles per hour at top speeds. Mr. Morris’s extraordinary personal journey and his late entry into professional baseball have made him a highly sought-after motivational speaker who travels the world, inspiring audiences to pursue their dreams and never give up.
In addition to his inspirational speaking career, Mr. Morris has received several prestigious accolades, including a Lifetime Achievement award from the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation and a CAMIE award for Character and Morality in Entertainment for “The Rookie.” He founded his charitable foundation in 2015, supporting underserved communities and children. He is also the author of the book “Dream Makers: Surround Yourself with the Best to Be Your Best,” in which he shares more of his incredible story and the individuals who contributed to his success.
Mr. Morris and his wife, Shawna, have raised five children and currently reside near San Antonio, Texas.
