The National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh has issued alerts for Central North Carolina, highlighting both a Heat Advisory and the potential for severe thunderstorms. Residents should prepare for high temperatures and be aware of the possibility of isolated strong storms.

Heat Advisory for June 27th

Another scorching day is forecasted for Central North Carolina tomorrow. A Heat Advisory has been issued for parts of the Coastal Plain, Sandhills, and Piedmont regions. The advisory is in effect from 11 AM to 5 PM, with temperatures expected to soar into the upper 90s, and heat indices potentially exceeding 105°F.

Actions to Take:

•       Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
•       Avoid Outdoor Activities: Limit strenuous activities during the hottest parts of the day.
•       Wear Appropriate Clothing: Opt for lightweight, light-colored clothing to reflect heat.
•       Stay Cool: Spend time in air-conditioned environments when possible.

Severe Thunderstorm Outlook for June 27th


In addition to the heat, the NWS has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Outlook for Thursday, June 27th. Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop ahead of a cold front, primarily between noon and 8 PM.

Overview:

•       Scattered Thunderstorms: Developing ahead of a cold front.
•       Timing: Between noon and 8 PM.
•       Hazards: Mainly isolated damaging wind gusts and large hail.

The affected areas are primarily south and east of Raleigh, with a marginal risk (level 1 out of 5) for severe weather.

What a Marginal Risk Means:

•       Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible.
•       These storms are expected to be limited in duration, coverage, and intensity.
