$1.4 million contract awarded

NC DOTRAEFORD – A pair of bridges on Golf Course Road will be replaced soon in southeastern Hoke County.

Smith-Rowe LLC of Mount Airy will replace the bridges, which are 150 feet apart and span Rockfish Creek, after the N.C. Department of Transportation awarded a nearly $1.4 million contract last month.

Both bridges were built in the early 1950s. Although safe, they have become functionally obsolete and structurally deficient. They require more maintenance and carry vehicle weight limits.

The contractor can commence work between October and March. It will take six months to complete the project.
