While on the topic of youngsters … the time for returning to college is fast approaching … Starting dates vary … and for 1st timers … a huge adjustment for youngsters and parents alike…

My bride and I decided we would have a ‘burger for lunch yesterday … It was my chore to pick-up and Melvin’s was a great place to go … met friends from long ago, and new friends … busy, busy, busy as it was at numerous other locations…

If all goes as planned, MacKenzie Gore will be the starting pitcher for the Washington Nationals today … Nationals vs. San Francisco Giants in DC … game time is 1:35 p.m. Gore is a Columbus County native.

The British Open concludes early today … Winner picks up $3 million … The Barracuda Open ends today in California … top prize is $684,000 … Ladies play today as well…

Municipal elections upcoming in Bladen and surrounding areas between now and early November … more later…

High yesterday at the local weather station was 90 degrees … between 2 and 3 p.m. We also received about 2/10ths of an inch of rain later … between 6:45 p.m. and about 7:45 p.m.

Today’s forecast … A 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 90. Tonight, showers are likely and possibly a thunderstorm, best chance is between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. Low in the 70 degree range … chance of rain is near 60%.

Hot weather apparently has not slowed golfers in the area … and White Lake, Jones Lake and the White Lake Water Slide appear to be drawing big numbers … based on vehicles at the various locations…
