Today, marks the 76th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, by the Japanese.  This vicious attack led to the United States joining in World War II.

in the early morning hours of December 7, 1941, Japanese bombers launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. The attack caught the US Navy by surprise and eight battleships were sunk. Two battleships—the USS Arizona and the USS Oklahoma—did not return to duty. All totaled, 20 American vessels were either damaged or destroyed and 300 aircraft were damaged or destroyed.

During the attack, numerous service men and women lost their lives. According to Wikipedia, the number of US citizens who lost their lives on December 7, 1941, is placed at 2,403.

Today, has been set aside as a day to remember those who lost their lives in that vicious attack.
