Cape Fear Vineyard and Winery are thrilled to present “Corked Up Comedy Night” this evening, May 31, 2024. With doors opening at 7:00 PM and the show starting at 7:30 PM, guests can expect an evening brimming with laughter, thanks to the comedic talents of JD Scranton and Hulin Saunders.
Derrick Rice, the Events Director at Cape Fear Vineyard and Winery shared the inspiration behind hosting this comedy night. “I have always wanted to host a comedy show here,” Rice said. “A few months back, Mitch from Locals Comedy visited the property and pitched the idea. I was game!”
When it came to selecting JD Scranton and Hulin Saunders, Rice worked closely with Locals Comedy in Fayetteville. “I requested North Carolina-grown comedians who would appeal to a wide audience,” he explained. “I’ve listened to some of their work and really think everyone is going to enjoy it.”
While the show was initially planned for The Cork Room, it will take place in The Gallery Ballroom, a stunning venue within Cape Fear Vineyard and Winery. “As all of our guests know, it is a beautiful venue filled with priceless artwork and Tuscan-inspired building features,” Rice noted. “The setting and the way we will have the room and stage set will give guests a real uptown experience.”
Before the comedy show, guests are encouraged to enjoy a delightful dinner in The Cork Room. Chef Timothy has curated a menu of upscale American cuisine that is sure to please every palate. “The atmosphere is always relaxed, fun, and immersive,” Rice said. Additionally, there will be a bar available during the event where guests can purchase wine, cocktails, soda, and a selection of appetizers.
The show tonight is expected to attract a lively crowd, mainly composed of millennials and gen Xers ready to unwind and have a good laugh. “We have not had a comedy show of this type before; it will be our debut,” Rice mentioned. “A few years ago, we did have TikTok creator Comedic Cody, but in my opinion, that was a much different style of event.”
For Derrick Rice, success for events like this means ensuring all guests have a fantastic time. “Success for me with any event is that all the guests have had a great time and they have been able to remove themselves from the everyday humdrum of life for a few moments of letting loose and having fun,” he said. “Of course, when I hear, ‘When’s the next show?’ I know we’ve done our job.”
As for what he is most looking forward to about the “Corked Up Comedy Night,” Rice shared, “I absolutely love visiting comedy bars and watching comedy specials online, so I’m looking forward to the actual talent of the comedians. It’s always nice when I’m producing an event but actually get to enjoy the talent as well.”
