United Way volunteers Sandra Hester West, Marcella McKoy, Megan Bennett, and Randie Harrellson spent Thursday morning at the Bladen County Crisis Assistance Food Pantry in Elizabethtown helping to collect donations for those in need.

The group said they enjoy giving back to the community.

“It is very rewarding to give back to the community good feeling to know that you can help people during a crisis and work together as a team,” said McKoy.

The group began their mission at about 9:30 a.m. at the pantry.

Hester said on Thursday that over 125 families were served and allowed one bag of food per household.

She said most fo those that arrived didn’t have power during the storm and had lost all of the food in their refrigerators.

They all agreed that being able to help those who were either displaced by the storm or lost their food was a very humbling and rewarding experience.
