A worker has died following an accident at the Smithfield Foods Plant in Tar Heel on Tuesday afternoon.
Michael Jessup, 55, of Clarkton was killed while he was performing mechanical work on an overhead conveyor at the plant. The line accidentally started up, according to Bladen County Coroner Hubert Kinlaw.
The call for help came in to the 911 Call Center at 3:25 p.m., said Kinlaw. Jessup was pronounced at the scene.
