Here are three things to know for Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020.

1. The eighth annual Polar Plunge is scheduled for 11 a.m. behind the arcade inside Camp Clearwater at White Lake. Participants go for a swim in the lake to start the new year. Weather forecast calls for a high temperature of 58 and sunshine.

The event began in 2013 when former Army soldier Ray Goodin challenged ex-Marine Al Pingree to jump into White Lake on New Year’s Day.

Bladenboro Historical Society2. The Bladenboro Historical Society is having a traditional New Year’s Day lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meal includes collards, chicken and rice, cornbread, cake and tea. Plates are $7. Proceeds will help maintain the building on South Main Street.

3. The Cape Fear Valley Blood Donor Center will conduct a blood drive Thursday at Bladen County Hospital. The drive will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Donors will need to bring photo identification.
