Bladen County was hit hard during Hurricane Matthew. Now the mother county will receive a grant to assist with cleanup.
Dean Morris, Director of the Bladen Soil and Water Conservation District, announced on Thursday, June 1st, Bladen County’s Grant request (application) with the Golden Leaf Foundation has been approved. The county will receive this grant in the amount of $800,000 to assist with stream debris removal in rivers and water courses throughout Bladen County affected by Hurricane Matthew according to Morris.
Morris mentioned special thanks to the diligent work of the Bladen Soil and Water Conservation District and the Bladen County Planning Department for assessing countywide stream debris issues and writing the Grant to make this project possible.
Charles Ray Peterson, Chairman of the Bladen County Board of Commissioners said they have been working on getting this grant for a while. “I think this is great,” Peterson said.
Peterson also gave credit to White Lake Fire Chief, Dale Brennan, for all his work on gathering information for the grant.
The first priority will be given to areas that experienced significant flooding causing damage to homes and property.
