The National Weather Service Office in Wilmington has issued its second heat advisory for the week for Bladen County. The heat advisory for Friday will be in effect from 12 noon  until 5 p.m.

Heat index values for Friday are forecast to reach 109 degrees. The actual temperature is forecast to reach 93 degrees with  high humidity.  According to the National Weather Service office, high heat and humidity can increase the risk for heat-related illnesses and heat stress.

Do not leave children or pets unattended in hot cars. If you are engaging in outdoors activities, take frequent breaks; drink plenty of water; wear light colored, loose fitting clothing. Check on the elderly as they are most susceptible to heat-related illnesses.

Make sure pets have access to plenty of fresh drinking water and access to plenty of shade or an air conditioned building.
