The Bladen County Board of Commissioners met on Monday night and recognized Bladen County Health Department employee Carol Strickland for her retirement which was effective in October.

Strickland worked for the Health Department for 31 years before her retirement.

Bladen County Department of Health and Human Services Director David Howard said, “Carol (Strickland) has worked in public health for 32 years. In the last five years she has done a fantastic job with the Young Mom’s Connect program.”

Howard said Strickland had assisted with writing the grant as well as working with the program. Howard said Strickland’s coworkers have remarked since her retirement how much they miss her.

Next Bladen County Commissioners Chairman Charles Ray Peterson read from the plaque being presented and said, “Job well done.”

Strickland said, “When I walked in the door I never thought I would be there that long. It’s been very good to assist people.”

Also, the Commissioners presented a proclamation for National Hospice Palliative Care month.  Brooke Hinson with the Lower Cape Fear Hospice received the proclamation from Chairman Peterson. 

Chairman Peterson read the proclamation aloud to those present. He noted Lower Cape Fear Hospice has served more than 6,000 patients in six counties 500 trained volunteers contributed 33,000 hours last year.

Hinson said, “Lower Cape Fear Hospice is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing the highest level of care and comfort to patients with life limiting illness and support and counseling to families.”

She said they serve both Bladen and Columbus counties locally and are in need of volunteers. To volunteer,
