A meeting between local government officials and Chemours representatives was held today.
“It was a good meeting,” said Bladen County Manager Greg Martin. He described the meeting as productive as officials reviewed options for addressing the needs of citizens residing in the vicinity of the Chemours plant.
Martin said one option being studied is Cumberland County purchasing water from Bladen County for those customers whose wells have tested positive for GenX at levels above the state’s acceptable level of 143 parts per million.
When asked how many wells are now impacted by GenX, Martin said because the area being tested is being extended. Martin said as the size of the area being tested is increasing, the number of wells being tested is increasing. He did say the majority of the wells testing positive are located in Cumberland County.
“This is being looked at from the short-term perspective and the long-term perspective,” said Martin.
He said officials plan to meet again in a few weeks to discuss the matter and Martin said he hopes to have more details at that time.
