Cape Fear Valley Healthcare held a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday for the White Lake Medical Clinic and Pharmacy. Dr. Breeden Blackwell with Cape Fear Valley welcomed everyone to the celebration.

White Lake Mayor Goldston Womble said he was excited about the new facility which will be coming soon to the former Potter’s Seafood location in White Lake. Dr. Blackwell said the lot has been empty for many years and this is an exciting opportunity.

Mike Nagowski, Chief Executive Officer with Cape Fear Valley (CFV), explained Cape Fear Valley partnered with Bladen County Hospital 10 years ago and how proud he is of that partnership. “We want to to grow into what healthcare needs to be in the future,” He said.

Cape Fear Valley has expanded healthcare in Bladen County with healthcare centers in Bladenboro and in Clarkton, according to Daniel Weatherly, Chief Operating Officer, who spoke to the crowd.

Introductions were made of the construction teams. Those announced were Dean Hilton, Developer of project; LTC Associates are the Architects; and the General Contractor of the project is DeVane Builders.

Dr. Roxie Wells, President of Bladen Healthcare, addressed the crowd and discussed the achievements over the past 15 months and future goals of the healthcare system. “In addition today’s ground breaking ceremony we have quite a few other achievements,” Dr. Wells said. Two different Joint Commission Certifications Bladen Healthcare obtained has the local healthcare system in a league of their own in the nation because no other health care system has these certifications, according to Dr. Wells. “That speaks volumes about your families and friends that work in our hospital,” Dr. Wells said.

A long list was given of the different health care services Bladen Healthcare provides. Grant funding has been received to help update equipment and education. Dr. Wells also mentioned Cape Fear Valley’s partnership with Bladen Community College to help produce more nurses.

“We are offering full scholarships to nursing students… in doing so helps us to ensure members of our community who wish to further their education can do so and it keeps our families in our community because they will have jobs here in their community,” Dr. Wells announced.

In closing, Dr. Wells asked everyone to support Bladen Healthcare and thanked everyone for their support. Local officials, the construction team, and the leadership team of Cape Fear Valley-Bladen Healthcare helped break the ground at the new facility’s location.

Dean Hilton, the Developer for the project, announced the goal for opening the doors on the new clinic will be May 1, 2018.
