DUBLIN – West Bladen exploded for 14 runs in the first inning en route to a 24-5 Three Rivers Conference softball victory over South Robeson Tuesday night.

After Makoa Riveria knocked in a Lady Mustang run in the first inning, senior Abby Dawson and sophomore Kyla Reed drew walks to start the Lady Knight first. Sophmore Alara Cashwell pounded a double to left that scored Abby Dawson and Reed.

Junior Carley Dawson drilled a double to centerfield that scored Cashwell, and seniors Madison Collins and Brittney Landreth and sophmore Jordan Benson drew walks. Carley Dawson and Collins dashed home on wild pitches. Freshman Alyssa Suggs drew a walk.

Abby Dawson cracked a single that scored Landreth and Benson. Reed and Cashwell both walked, and Suggs and Abby Dawson scooted home on wild pitches. Carley Dawson hammered a double to left that plated Reed and Cashwell.

Collins belted a single that scored Cashwell. Landreth smashed a double to left-centerfield that scored Collins. Benson and freshman Shelby Pharr drew walks. Landreth sprinted home on a wild pitch for a 14-1 Lady Knight lead.

South Robeson scored a second inning run, but Reed walked to begin the Lady Knight second. Cashwell drilled a double to left-centerfield that scored Reed. Carley Dawson ripped a single off the Lady Mustang pitcher that scored Cashwell.

Collins walloped a double to left, and Benson’s infield hit scored Collins. Benson circled the bases on a stolen base and 2 wild pitches for an 18-2 West Bladen lead.

South Robeson scored 3 runs in the third, but the Lady Knights responded with 3 runs in their half of the third. Abby Dawson walked, and Reed beat out an infield hit. Cashwell smoked a single to centerfield that scored Abby Dawson.

Collins and Landreth drew walks, and Benson lined a single to right that scored Cashwell. Freshman Natalie Ludlum was hit by a pitch that forced home sophmroe Erica Storms, the courtesy runner for Collins, and padded the lead to 21-5.

Abby Dawson walked to begin the Lady Knight fourth, and Reed blasted a home run over the centerfield fence. Carley Dawson laced a single to centerfield, stole 2 bases and scored on Collins’ fielder’s choice.

Carley Dawson batted 4-5 with 2 doubles, 4 runs batted in and 3 runs scored to lead the Lady Knight hitters. Cashwell was 3-4 at the plate  with a double, 4 rbi’s and 4 runs scored. Reed slugged the 2-run homer, batted 2-2 and scored 4 runs.

Collins batted 2-3 with 2 rbi’s, a double and 3 runs scored. Benson finished a perfect 2-2 at the plate with 2 rbi’s and 2 runs scored. Landreth doubled home a run and scored twice.

Abby Dawson singled and scored 4 runs. Suggs and Storms scored runs, and Ludlum drove in a run.

Collins scattered ten hits in her 5 innings in the circle, struck out two and allowed 5 runs – 3 earned.

Riveria, Cheyenne Lowery and Cambyl Scott all batted 2-3 to lead the South Robeson hitters.

“They walked a bunch (sixteen), but we hit the ball too,” said Lady Knight Coach Pam Stephens. “It was a good win for us.”

The Lady Knights improved to 8-5 in league play and 9-8 overall. West Bladen will host Wallace-Rose Hill Wednesday night.
