The event is planned for 9 a.m. June 9th at the Elizabethtown Industrial Park behind Cape Fear Vineyard and Winery. According to Stacie Kinlaw, a United Way of Bladen County board member, the Crazy Fun Color Run is an event to raise money for United Way of Bladen County. There is a new center coming to town for local athletes. Some Bladen and Columbus County baseball and softball players are excited to hear about the opening of a new training facility. This Saturday, May 26th a Grand Opening of the new Baseball and Softball Training Center will be held by the business owner, Derick Graham and the Columbus County Chamber of Commerce. WILMINGTON – The Bladen FC Under-12 Gold soccer team was eliminated Sunday from the Seaside Soccer Classic by a 3-0 loss to Coast FA. The Bladen FC Under-15 Blue team won both the regular-season and tournament championships of the Sandhills Soccer League. The Sandhills Soccer League is made up of teams from Pembroke, Lumberton, St. Pauls, Fayetteville, Hoke County and Bladen County. In their tournament semi-final game, Bladen FC U15 Blue defeated St. Pauls 3-1. Malcolm Bolden, Garrett Melvin and Jackson Bostic fired in one goal each for the Bladen team. In preparation for the upcoming school year, Student Athletic Advisory Council members will attend a team-building/leadership summit from July 22-25, 2018 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Bladenboro Middle School Bulldog Academy had some very special speakers on Monday. Corey McDowell, Jamar Tank Dials, Anson Yarborough, and Marcus Walls (players and coaches from Cape Fear Heroes Arena Football team) took time out of their day to speak to members of the Bulldog Academy. They spoke to them about obstacles they have overcame in life and how hard they have worked to become successful. The St. Pauls at East Bladen baseball and softball games have been tentatively rescheduled for Wednesday if the fields at East Bladen are playable. East Bladen’s girls soccer game at West Columbus was rescheduled for 4 p.m. Friday at West Columbus. Addie Bowen was named game’s Most Valuable Player after driving in 5 runs by batting 3-3 against the Hot Shots in this weekend’s Top Gun Super Regional at Arnette Park in Fayetteville. A pair of Bladenboro area hunters killed one double-bearded turkey each in the same day Saturday. Killing two of the extremely rare birds together is highly unusual. Clay Allen and John Waldrop, who were baseball and soccer teammates at West Bladen High, killed the birds. One had a 10.5 inch beard and the other had a 9 inch beard. Both birds had half inch spurs. RED SPRINGS –West Bladen’s Boys finished third in the five-team Three Rivers Conference track meet held at Red Springs High Thursday. St. Pauls won the boys meet with 111 points. Host Red Springs was second with 99 points, followed by West Bladen with 65 points. Whiteville tallied 52 points, and South Columbus was fifth with 24 points. Whiteville won the girls meet with 107 points. St. Pauls was second with 87 points followed by South Columbus with 52 points, Red Springs (50 points) and West Bladen (49 points). Freshman Sam West pitched 5.1 innings of 5-hit baseball, struck out 2, walked 3, hit 4 batters and allowed 9 runs – only one earned.
