Because the sun is highest in the sky on this day, you’ll notice that your shadow (at noon) is the shortest it will be all year.” The facts according to the Almanac.

July 4th is on Wednesday this year. We normally celebrate on a weekend, so do we celebrate on the first weekend in July or the second weekend, or just on Wednesday, July 4th, or all week long? Retirees are flexible, anytime is a good time for a party.
Remember working at Top Mode Mfg in Elizabethtown many years ago. Everyone was off the week of July 4th, and many other plants done the same. Some still follow that schedule, so the party may last all week long.
