LUMBERTON – Elizabethtown completed their four game sweep through the District 9 Dixie Youth Baseball Coach-Pitch Tournament with a 14-0 victory over West Robeson American Thursday night in the championship game.
In four games the Elizabethtown team outscored their opponents by a 63-7 margin.
Omar Powell led off the Elizabethtown first inning with a single, but was retired on Devance Tatum’s fielder’s choice. Ryker Strickland cracked a single, and Tyler Eason slugged a 3-run home run that scored Tatum and Strickland.
Brady Marlowe and Cade Rogers belted singles, but Rogers was retired on Cooper Long’s fielder’s choice. Seth Faircloth reached base on an error that scored Marlowe. Fox Sutton laced a single that scored Long and stretched the Elizabethtown lead to 5-0.
Gunner Lewis ignited Elizabethtown’s 7-run second inning with a single. Powell and Tatum followed with singles that scored Lewis. Ryker Strickland swatted a single that scored Powell. Eason’s fielder’s choice retired Tatum, but Brady Marlowe blasted a 3-run home run that scored Strickland and Eason.
Rogers reached base on an error, and Long delivered a single. Faircloth knocked in Rogers with a single, and Long also scored on the play to boost the lead to 12-0.
Jag Gooden and Javonte Smith slammed singles in the Elizabethtown third inning, and both of them raced home when Powell smashed a single.
Powell batted 3-3 with 2 runs batted in and a run scored. Marlowe clobbered the 3-run home run, batted 2-2 and scored twice. Strickland finished 2-2 at the plate with an rbi and 2 runs scored. Eason blasted a 3-run homer and scored twice.
Tatum, Rogers, Long, Faircloth, Sutton, Gooden, Smith and Lewis connected for one hit each. Long scored 2 runs, and Tatum, Rogers, Gooden, Smith and Lewis scored one run each. Tatum, Faircloth and Sutton had one rbi each.
Elizabethtown advances to the North Carolina State Coach-Pitch Tournament in Stanly which is located south of Charlotte.
