Bladen County will be receiving its first “Little Free Library in late July. There are plans for a special ribbon-cutting ceremony and “Summer Read and Hike Day” for youth at Jones Lake State Park on Saturday, July 28th, from 10 a.m. until 12 noon, according to Carrie Harmon.
According to Harmon, the Little Free Library is a non-profit book exchange program with the mantra of “Take a Book. Share a Book”. The program has engaged communities around the world to promote reading and literacy. Historically, Bladen County has never had a Little Free Library until now! As part of a final project for a local educator’s North Carolina Environmental Education Certification, Bladen County’s first Little Free Library is coming to Jones Lake State Park as a permanent park fixture. Through the generosity of Little Free Library’s Impact Library program, a Little Free Library station has been donated to this amazing project. The Little Free Library will have a special focus on environmental literacy, which in turn will help the community better understand and appreciate nature and the environment. We hope you can join us in an exciting reading and hike day, and ribbon-cutting ceremony for our new Little Free Library at Jones Lake State Park!
