Celebrating communities is not a past time. Kelly Spring Fest organized by Kelly Fire Department, Station 56, held on the last Saturday of April every year provides the opportunity for celebrating community.
Jeff Huff, Kelly Firefighter helped commentate the parade this year with BladenOnline.com. After the devastation of hurricane Florence hit the Kelly community it is nice to be able to come together to laugh and socialize with each other, Huff explained.
Huff said, “This is the 50 year anniversary of the Kelly Fire Station. The original members are the Grand Marshalls.”
The original members are Ennis Robeson, Jerry Potter, Archie Ray Corbett, Richard Smith, Carl Potter, Bobby Russ, and Eddie Ridenhour.
Brandon Norris the Kelly Fire Chief, Aaron Robeson the Assistance Chief, Bryan Barnhill, Captian, Ryan Thorton, Captain, Firefighter Huff and other Fire Department members are organizing the event.

Captain Thorton remarked about the perfect weather for the event. With temperatures in the 70s everyone seemed to be comfortable while enjoying the day’s activities.
There were concerns about the triathlon conducted at White Lake interfering with the Kelly parade because cyclists had to ride through the parade route. The cyclists from the lake’s event did appear a bit intimidated while riding through the parade. However there are no incidents with the parade.
“I think it’s great when everybody gets together and has a great time. They can get together and enjoy themselves and I’m glad to be a part of it,” Bladen County Sheirff McVicker said.
There will be live entertainment, food, and vendors in downtown Kelly until 2 pm. The event is free and open to the public.
