Reminder — Community meeting this evening, 7 p.m., at Centerville Baptist Church in Kelly. Purpose of the meeting is to provide updated info related to the White Oak Dike Levee System. Bladen County Commissioners and members of the Kelly Dike District Committee are expected to be at the meeting and all are invited. Last year the community was flooded and many are still attempting to return to a normal lifestyle.
Congratulations again to the Elizabethtown Dixie Youth AAA Minor League All Star team, headed to the State Playoffs in Dunn beginning July 5. They defeated West Robeson in the championship game, both teams advance to the playoffs.
Brings back memories from the 70s and 80s. … An Elizabethtown team was playing a Wilmington team, either in Lumberton or Laurinburg. Score was 0-0 late in the game, Elizabethtown team had a runner on 3rd (Dennis Meshaw???). He attempted to score and was ruled out on interference call. Very controversial call. … Think that doesn’t leave a lasting memory? Ask those on the team or their coaches. … About as close as our teams ever came to advancing against numerous very good Wilmington teams.
The 2019 All-Stars and their coaches are making memories that will last a lifetime.
