Mackenzie Gore lived up to his billing in the Futures Game played in Cleveland Sunday night. It was the best of the American and National League minor leaguers and after walking the first batter he faced, Gore was on target, picking the base runner off at first, then faced two more batters, easy outs … line score for Gore, 0-0-0, no runs, no hits and no errors. Gore, of Whiteville is one of several talented future stars in the San Diego Padres farm system. He has posted impressive numbers this year playing with the Padres higher Class A team in the California League.

Social media post over the weekend listed Mac Warner, an Elizabethtown native, as Bladen County Chief Deputy. Warner retired a year or so ago as a North Carolina SBI Agent in Charge. He joined the Brunswick County Sheriff’s office as an investigator for about a year. Warner is an ’81 graduate of East Bladen High School and has an impressive resume’ in law enforcement.
