Much activity revolving around youth baseball and softball and playoffs and raising $’s to assist in travel related expenses. A great experience for many.

Nearer home, a missing 15 year old Fairmont girl has claimed much attention, by late Sunday afternoon, Facebook posts were coming in from all across the US at a rate like I have never seen. A check early this morning reveals little new info. Macie Lee Huggins was reported missing by her family. Last seen or heard from early Sunday. Anyone with any related info is ask to contact the Robeson County Sheriff’s office. Pray all is well. Too much of that type activity, all around.
Remember when our lives were less complicated? No social media, ‘Bout this time of year, farm families were concentrating on harvesting crops … #1 cash crop was tobacco, July and August were the most important months of the year. … Tobacco markets usually opened around the last week of July. Not uncommon for the Governor and NC Ag Secretary to be in Clarkton for the opening of the market. Back-to-school sales at Belks in Elizabethtown, Leinwands, Fowler Simmons, Mann’s Department store, Parker Farris and more. And in Bladenboro, remember Bullocks, Collins and later Fowler Simmons as well as the Cash Store (Fishers) and Bridger Corporation, and Farah’s in Clarkton So much has changed. … I know, probably missed a few retail outlets. It was a big deal … like Christmas in July and August.
Oh well, not bad now, just different. In the 60s, 70s and 80s, seldom a missing child, and if missing they may be found around a fishing hole or maybe slipped away to play ball with children in the neighborhood or go the creek in their cut-off jeans for a quick swim..
