The White Lake Multi-Use Path Dedication Ceremony was held today at 3 p.m. Town of White Lake Mayor H. Goldston Womble, Jr. welcomed the crowd.

Mayor Womble humbly gave the credit for the vision of the new iconic spot to Mrs. Hope Clark Campbell and thanked all parties involved multiple times.

Although the dream came from Mrs. Campbell about 19 years ago, it took many partnerships to make the vision a reality according to those in attendance at the ceremony.

Robert Hosford, State Director with the USDA and Neil Lewis, Chairman with the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Authority spoke about the partnerships and the hope for future endeavors.

The construction of the new White Lake multi-use path was completed in May of this year. S & C Construction, LLC of Wilmington was the contractor for the project.

The path has a foot bridge and a parking area. The path is designed with a strip of grass between the roadways and those utilizing the path for safety.

“The main thing is having a safe place for people and families to get out and walk, ride their bicycle or run,” said Mayor Womble.

Project Manager Eddie Madden stated, “We want the path to extend to at least the White Lake Marina. Our goal is to have the path go all the way to the Scotchman, but it may take up to two additional segments.”

The multi-use path and the sidewalks will connect around the entire lake once the town has reached the goal.

The project is funded with $250,000 grant from USDA and a $350,000 grant from the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund. The remainder of the funds for the project came from a local match from the town of White Lake.

The multi-use path was constructed between the Waterford subdivision on NC 53 and the Turtle Cove subdivision on US 701 because of local landowner Tom Keith. Mr. Keith and his family donated a 25 year easement giving the town the necessary right-of-way to construct the path.

“Get ready, Mr. Keith because we are going to be on your doorstep again soon,” Mayor Womble said noting the goal of extending the path.

After Mayor Womble gave credit to all those who assisted in the project again, he asked for assistance the ribbon cutting part of the ceremony because it was a team effort. He called out for: White Lake Town Board of Commissioners Tim Blount and Paul Evans, W. Benjamin Keith, James M. Keith, Alexander T. Keith, Thomas J. Keith, Clint and Mary Ann Roberson, S & C Construction, Robert Gosford, H. Rossie Bullock with the USDA, Dwayne Patterson, Director with NC PARTF, Brandon King on behalf of Larry King & Associates, Pat Taylor in honor of Joey Taylor, Lester Lowe, The Wooten Company, Dan Gantt, with the Wooten Company, Hope Campbell with Clearwater Enterprises and Eddie Madden, Project Manager.
