The new Elizabethtown-White Lake Area Chamber Executive Director, Terri Dennison was the guest speaker for the monthly lunch and learn held at the Cape Fear Farmer’s Market last week. Dennison explained the importance of tourism in the area and listed advantages of visiting the area.
She polled those in attendance asking them to write down the top three places residents take their visitors when they visit the area. Then she gave a list of activities the chamber plans to use to draw more people to the area.
“We have a lot of activities here,” Dennison said.
“ATV is becoming one of the biggest motorized activities. It surpassed snowmobiling. It’s huge in the north,” Dennison pointed out. Elizabethtown has a poplar ATV park.
Visiting historic places is still one of the top things people like to do while on vacation, according to Dennison. “We need to pay attention to our connection with the Revolutionary War,” Dennison stated while showing a photo of Bladen County’s Harmony Hall.
We have wonderful trails, parks and water front activities, Dennison explained. Bladen County has the Mountains to the Sea trail coming through White Lake, the Brown’s Creek Bike Trail, Jones Lake State Park with renovations for camping and so much more.
Last but not least, Dennison mentioned, “And of course we have golf.”
Larrell and Farrell Murchison, former East Bladen football players who now play for North Carolina State and Winston-Salem State, respectively, will be grand marshals for the Elizabethtown Christmas parade on Sunday, Dec. 1.
The traditional holiday parade will work its way through the streets of their hometown and end with the arrival of Santa Claus.
New this year, the Elizabethtown-White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a community get-together in the Farmer’s Market following the parade. Children will be able to visit with Santa and get a signed football from the Murchison twins.
President of the Chamber, Jennifer Leggett announced the Chamber is encouraging residents to take advantage of the brand names and unique gifts available from stores like Amy’s, Fishers and the Ladies Shop, Leinwands, Ray’s, Yia Yia Gifts & More, Sassy Chick Boutique and Toddler & Teens Boutique. In addition, several crafts people and food vendors will be on hand at the Farmer’s Market on Sunday afternoon.
