BLADENBORO – Junior Tate Davis and senior Demond Perry keyed a 16-3 second-half run that propelled North Brunswick to a 58-48 victory over West Bladen Saturday in the final round of the Adidas Christmas Tournament.

Senior Nijeah McKoy dropped in a lay-up off of an assist from senior Tyre Boykin to pull the Knights to within 30-25 midway the third quarter, before Davis drained a pair of 3-point shots and flipped in a lay-up, and Perry added a lay-up and 3 free throws as the Scorpion lead grew to 46-28 with 6:54 remaining.

The Knights answered with a 13-3 spurt. Boykin turned a feed from freshman Gary Parker into a lay-up, and junior Josh Lewis drove for a lay-up. Boykin sank 4 free throws then buried a 3-point shot to slice the deficit to 49-41 at the 2:05 mark.

Perry and senior Elijah Elwood knocked in 2 free throws each for the Scorpions, but Boykin bombed in a 3-ball to keep the Knights within 53-46 with 43 seconds left. Two free throws each from Devonte Beatty and Davis plus a Davis lay-up sealed the verdict.

Davis topped the North scoring with 17 points, Beatty followed with 14 points, and Perry totaled 11 points.

Boykin poured in 26 points and had 5 rebounds and 4 steals to lead the Knights. McKoy finished with 8 points, and Lewis added 6 points. Parker grabbed 5 rebounds.

A Boykin lay-up started the game, but Beatty sparked a 12-0 North run with a pair of 3-point shots. Boykin halted the run with a long 3-pointer, Lewis hit a free throw, and McKoy turned a Boykin assist into a lay-up and a 3-point play as the Knights whittled the North lead to 15-9 at the quarter break.

Scorpion Levi Lindbert’s 3-ball started the second quarter, but Lewis tossed in a runner, junior Donovan Stone popped in a 10-footer and 2 free throws and McKoy converted a Parker feed into a 3-point play as the Knights closed the gap to 20-18. Elwood’s turn-around from the lane put North up 22-18 at the half.

Junior Shy’Ron Adams made 2 free throws, and Boykin drilled in a 3-pointer to keep West Bladen within 28-23 with 6:23 left in the third period.

West Bladen, now 4-6, will host West Columbus Friday night in a Three Rivers Conference game.
