The Mother County Genealogical Society will meet Saturday, February 8 from noon until 2 p.m. in the Bladenboro Historical Society Building at 818 South Main Street.

In the early 1760’s, John Bartram and his son William were commissioned by King George III to lead an expedition to record plant species throughout the Carolinas, Georgia and northern Florida. William Lived in Bladen County and went on to lead several other botanical surveys. The Bartam’s publications became the base for botanical knowledge in North Carolina.

Karen Dawsey will tell us about the Bartram Family and the history of Oakland Plantation in Bladen County.
