North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper announced enforcement begins at 5 p.m. on Monday of the Stay at Home Order.
Gov. Cooper stated, “It bans gatherings of 10 or more people.”
The order is to go into effect at 5 p.m. on Monday, and remain in effect for 30 days.
North Carolina Senator, Danny Britt gave some explaination of the Stay at Home Order Friday afternoon.
Individuals are required to stay in their residences or outdoor spaces surrounding their residence, unless engaged in permitted travel or activities. Permitted travel includes travel for health and safety, to obtain necessary supplies and services (including food, health products, supplies to work from home), for outdoor activity, to care for others, to attend worship services, participate in volunteer activities, to receive goods and services provided by an Essential Business (as described below) or to work at an Essential Business.
Businesses are required to cease operations or direct employees to work from home, unless they fall within one of the following categories of an “Essential Business” which may continue to operate. Businesses will not be required to take any further action in order to stay open.
Exceptions for the Stay at Home order of banning gathers of more than 10 people are grocery stores and other essential businesses that continue to be in place.
Today, Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) issued the following statement on Governor Cooper’s stay-at-home order:
“We are all in this together, and in order to protect the health of North Carolinians and get through this crisis as quickly as possible, we must all do our part to contain community spread over the next several weeks. I’ve had discussions with Governor Cooper about the challenge of protecting both the physical and economic health of the state, and the Governor made the difficult, but correct decision to issue a statewide stay-at-home order.
“I’m glad this order allows essential industries to continue their important work while also providing flexibility to North Carolina businesses that are able to practice social distancing and maintain a safe and healthy work environment to protect their employees and the general public.”
