On Monday, June 1, 2020 Bladen County faces multiple issues. Bladen County Health Department announced five new COVID-19 Cases today, bringing the total case out to 105. In addition to fighting the COVID-19 Pandemic, local protests bring concerns to the area.

On Sunday, peaceful protesters stood outside the Elizabethtown Walmart and Burger King. However, some citizens, business owners, and Walmart employees voiced concerns over the protests.

Over the weekend, reports of threats to local businesses along with the news about neighboring counties protests turning into riots and looting have many concerned in the mother county. Local business owner, Fletcher “Big Show” Collins met with Town of Elizabethtown Police Chief, Tony Parrish at the Elizabethtown Walmart on Sunday to call for peace.

Big Show asked people to think about the consequences of their actions and how it will affect business owners and employees already dealing with the stress of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

He said, “Consider all things.”

Chief Parrish recognized the injustice in the death of North Carolina native, George Floyd. He asked for peace and more community forums about how to overcome the issues our communities are facing.

Parrish said, “Let’s all get together as a community and do what we can to get through this together without tearing down buildings injuring property and injuring people.”

Big Show is organizing a Stop the Violence Community event for June 13, 2020, with local pastors, business owners, elected officials, and community members. Everyone is invited to attend the event. Big Show said today he would have more details about the event on Wednesday. . More information about the event will be published as soon as it is made available.
