Christina Schechtman, Media Relations Specialist with UNC Wilmington announced an update for the UNCW spring Class of 2020 commencement ceremonies.

She stated, “The extension of North Carolina’s “Safer at Home Phase 2” through July 17 means we will not have enough time to coordinate our spring Class of 2020 commencement ceremonies that had been rescheduled for August 7 and 8. In addition, we cannot be sure that Phase 3 will allow large events for the number of people we’d anticipate attending our ceremonies, even though they were to take place outdoors. We do not believe it is fair to wait until at least July 17 to make a decision about ceremonies taking place just three weeks later.”

Schechtman added, “We are very disappointed to have to make this decision, and we know how upsetting it will be for our spring grads and their families. At this point, we anticipate being able to hold our spring ceremonies in December, in conjunction with our fall ceremonies. We will bring you additional updates in the months to come, and you can find information as it becomes available on the Transition Programs website.”
