Steven Pfaff, Warning Coordination Meteorologist with the National Weather Service, announced the latest update regarding Hurricane Sally that hit landfall early Wednesday in Alabama.

According to the weather service reports, Sally’s remnants will affect Southeastern North Carolina through tonight, causing a few potential hazards. Pfaff released a briefing for more information. Here’s Pfaff’s quick summary of the weather conditions:

  • A few tornadoes are possible, especially this afternoon and this evening
  • Additionally, a few thunderstorms may produce damaging wind gusts to 60 mph
  • Periods of heavy rain could lead to flash flooding, especially near low-lying and prone locations. A
  • Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for a portion of northeast SC and southeast NC
  • Some coastal flooding is also possible from high astronomical tides and swells
  • The arrival of Hurricane Teddy’s swells this weekend will prolong enhanced rip current activity and rough surf conditions
