RALEIGH — Unemployment rates (not seasonally adjusted) increased in 95 of North Carolina’s counties in June, decreased in four counties, and remained unchanged in one county.

Graham County had the highest unemployment rate at 12.3 percent while Buncombe County had the lowest at 4.7 percent. All fifteen of the state’s metro areas experienced rate increases. Among the Metro areas, Rocky Mount at 8.9 percent experienced the highest rate and Asheville had the lowest rate at 5.0 percent. The June not seasonally adjusted statewide rate was 6.1 percent.

When compared to the same month last year, not seasonally adjusted unemployment rates decreased in 72 counties, increased in 20, and remained unchanged in eight. Ten metro areas experienced rate decreases over the year while four increased and one remained unchanged.
The number of workers employed statewide (not seasonally adjusted) decreased in June by 29,103 to 4,484,392, while those unemployed increased 11,822 to 292,571. Since June 2014, the number of workers employed statewide increased 95,159, while those unemployed decreased 7,646.

It is important to note that employment estimates are subject to large seasonal patterns; therefore, it is advisable to focus on over-the-year changes in the not seasonally adjusted estimates.

Bladen’s rate for June was 8.6 per cent. Other are county rates were: Brunswick 8.6, Columbus 7.9, Duplin 6.2, Hoke 8.4, New Hanover 5.6, Onslow 6.2, Pender 6.2. 9.1.Robeson.
