Memorial Day weekend … and folks will be on the move … Memorial Day is always on the last Monday of May, this year Monday, May 31st.

Memorial Day started as an event to honor Union soldiers who had died during the American Civil War. And since 1971, Memorial Day holiday has been officially observed on the last Monday in May. Originally, it was known as Decoration Day … It is a Federal Holiday … It is a time for us to remember all men and women who have died in military service for the United States. And, it is traditionally seen as the start of the summer season … All non-essential Government offices will be closed Monday…

All of us have been consumed by COVID-19 … but millions will be on the move for a few days as we celebrate Memorial Day … 2021.

Should be a huge crowd at lakes, beaches, mountains and most traveling on our roadways … Pack your patience if you will be traveling…

Weather forecast … Today, sunny with a high near 95 and windy, gusts as high as 21 mph. Tonight, a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 70 degrees windy with a 20% chance of precipitation.

Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 88 and windy … 40% chance of precipitation. 40% chance of rain Saturday night, dropping to a 30% chance on Sunday … Next best chance for rain is next Wednesday and Thursday in the 30 to 50% range…
