The question is, “What is the reason why I get up every day?” The answer is “my fortitude.”

Fortitude is the strength that allows people to face the obstacles and challenges of life, keeping in mind that they will be able to overcome them.

The term fortitude comes from the Latin fortitudo or fortis. The Latin words refers to “strength.” Some synonyms of the word fortitude are:

  • Boldness.
  • Staying power.
  • Value.
  • Endurance.
  • Fearlessness.
  • Audacity.
  • Perseverance.

Fortitude is not about achieving a purpose in itself. Instead, strength enables a person to persevere in the face of difficulties and give their best effort.

Sometimes in life, we have to face challenging and seemingly impossible situations. Our strength is what drives us to overcome adversity and to overcome ourselves.

Fortitude can be both a physical and a mental force. Physical strength lies in the healthiness of a person’s body. A healthy body has the necessary defenses to avoid acquiring physical damage. However, a healthy and strengthened body resists and fights for recovery.

On the other hand, mental toughness has to do with the healthiness of our thoughts. Despite being another type of strength, it is just as important as physical strength. Strength is a virtue that every human being can achieve if he sets his mind to it; however, you must have faith. For some people, their mental strength is family. For other people, the main strength is faith in God. They all have different strengths but with the same objective; go ahead.

The fortress has a much more essential background than the very definition of the word. Having mental strength allows us to believe that we have something important to strive for. Having a fortress enables us to protect ourselves from negative emotions and to reflect. Fortitude is a crucial virtue, as it allows for human progress.
