The U.S. Department of Agriculture proclaimed the first National Farmers Market Week in 1999. The first full week in August is a time to observe National Farmers Market Week. Bladen County is fortunate to have multiple Farmers Markets where you can find fresh produce, hand-crafted goods, live entertainment, and more!

What is a Farmers Market?

(From Merriam Webster)

farmers market: noun

a market at which local farmers sell their agricultural products directly to consumers.

What are the advantages of shopping at a Farmers Market?

Purchasing goods from a farmer’s market removes the “middle man” and allows consumers to form personal relationships with producers. There are many benefits to shopping locally. Buyers have the opportunity to learn where exactly the product came from, support the local economy, and purchase wholesome products rather than processed ones.

How do I celebrate National Farmers Market Week?

The best way to celebrate is by visiting local Farmers Markets. If you are out of town, visit a Farmers Market there… They can be found almost anywhere. You may get an idea for something you can offer at your local market!
