Good morning! 3 things to know for Monday, August 17
1. Calling all high school students. The first of two laptop deployment days is today at East Bladen and West Bladen from noon until 7 p.m. Tuesday’s times are from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. If you didn’t pay the fee in advance, it’ll cost $50. If you did pay in advance — you save $10 — remember to bring your receipt of payment. Students also will have the option of purchasing the laptops. Details will be available at the schools.
2. Another sure sign that the start of school is nearing is that the fall high school sports season is scheduled to start today. The West Bladen boys’ soccer team will play Purnell Swett at home at 5 p.m. The West Bladen volleyball and girls’ tennis teams will play at Fairmont.
3. If meetings are your thing, then today is your lucky day. The Bladen County Board of Commissioners have two meetings scheduled — one at noon to discuss personnel issues and then their regular meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the basement of the courthouse. Hopefully, the first meeting will end long before the second meeting begins. And, if that’s not enough, the Dublin Board of Commissioners are scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. at Town Hall.
