Thoughts While ShavingBladen County Commissioners have a busy schedule today….a special meeting at 12 noon to discuss personnel and a regular session at 6:30 p.m. with a full agenda including a discussion related to a nearly $20 million loan to finance a new Detention Center and Sheriff’s office… Just one of several important issues on the evening agenda….

Public schools open soon… Open House date and times are listed on our news page for every school in the county….All are planned for Thursday….but times vary…

Can you remember the beginning of school…as a youngster and as a parent? It’s a nine month project….We needed a #2 wooden pencil, paper, a rule and a protractor….as we advanced through the grades…..Today, a computer is a must for some grades…

East and West Bladen football begins Friday….We have the complete fall sports schedule for both schools near the bottom of our sports page…

Lots of activity over the past weekend…The big story was a plane crash in Bladenboro late Friday afternoon…Plane demolished, 2 occupants from out of town …We have new info on the accident…..Lucky folks…escaped with a few bruises.

Temps should be back in the 90’s today…..Little difference from the past few days…Highs have been in the 88 to 89 range.

Now….let me see….Nearly $20 million for the new jail, about 34,000 folks in the county and if all pay their fair share would be a little less than $600 each…Truth be told, those that use it the most will likely pay nothing….They get room and board and we get the bill….

What I learned in jail is that I can’t change. I can’t live a different lifestyle–this is it. This is the life they gave and this is the life I made. Tupac Shakur

I don’t like jail; they got the wrong kind of bars in there. Charles Bukowski

I don’t want to send them to jail. I want to send them to school. Adlai E. Stevenson
