Residual elements surround our society, from the peel of the fruit we eat to the piece of trash we carry to the landfill. We can find them when completing a process, work, or operation.
The origin of the word residual comes from the noun residue. Residues are the remaining parts of a composition, generally considered futile or useless. In its adjective form, the term residue is called “residual.” This word describes all those leftovers or remains that initially formed part of a useful composition. Beyond, the use of the word residual suggests that an object has already fulfilled its mission in a given job. The etymological root of the word residual goes back to the Latin phrase residuum. In its earliest meaning, the term residual meant to indicate a leftover or something no longer part of a unit.
When we use a disposable object, we take advantage of its usefulness for a short period of time. However, after it is used, we discard the so-called object. This part is what we classify as residual elements. The same thing happens when we make use of a significant amount of our money and then end up with a couple of cents. In this scenario, the residual part is the cents that we got left.
The term “residual” can also be used to explain the effects of something. For example, some circumstances may provoke in humans “residual emotions.” Within this context, the word residual indicates unresolved feelings originated from the ending of a relationship.

Los elementos residuales rodean a nuestra sociedad, desde la cáscara de la fruta que comemos hasta el pedazo de basura que llevamos al vertedero. Los podemos encontrar al completar un proceso, obra u operación.
El origen de la palabra residual proviene del sustantivo residuo. Los residuos son las partes restantes de una composición, generalmente consideradas inútiles o inútiles. En su forma adjetiva, el término residuo se denomina “residual”. Esta palabra describe todas aquellas sobras o restos que inicialmente formaban parte de una composición útil. Más allá, el uso de la palabra residual sugiere que un objeto ya ha cumplido su misión en un trabajo determinado. La raíz etimológica de la palabra residual se remonta a la frase latina residuum. En su significado más antiguo, la frase residual significaba indicar un sobrante o algo que ya no forma parte de una unidad.
Cuando usamos un objeto desechable, aprovechamos su utilidad por un corto período de tiempo. Sin embargo, después de su uso, descartamos estos llamados objetos. Esta parte es la que clasificamos como elementos residuales. Lo mismo ocurre cuando hacemos uso de una cantidad significativa de nuestro dinero y luego terminamos con un par de centavos. En este escenario, la parte residual son los centavos que nos sobraron.
El término “residual” también se puede utilizar para explicar los efectos de algo. Por ejemplo, algunas circunstancias pueden provocar en los humanos “emociones residuales”. Dentro de este contexto, la palabra residual indica sentimientos no resueltos originados por la terminación de una relación.
