Spread the love

Bladen County’s tourist attraction, White Lake, is home to White Lake Water Park – the only water park here in the Mother County. Since the park’s opening in 2004, families and friends have come together to have fun in the sun and make memories that last a lifetime.

Ted and Connie Hucks, the owners of White Lake Water Park, are residents of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. They had a dream of building a waterpark, and all they needed was a good location. Finally, they found that perfect location in White Lake and started building in 2003. In 2004, the park opened for a partial season.

Management shared, “Since opening, many things have changed! Our long time manager, Richard Allen, is no longer with us. We’ve expanded twice with more plans in the works, and our business has increased year after year. Our next addition will be more slides to entertain our teenage and adult guests.”

White Lake Water Park aims to best serve their guests. Monica Hucks with WLKWP shared, “This business is different because we really are guest-focused. Everything centers around their enjoyment of the park. We know if we don’t provide a good day of fun for them, they will not come back, and we need those return guests.”

WLKWP draws visitors to our county. This makes the water park a great contributor to the community economically. When visitors come to the water park from other areas, they are not only enjoying time in our county but they are also spending money at many of our local establishments such as motels and lodging locations, restaurants, and retail shops. In addition, WLKWP employs over 60 employees each season.

Management shared, “We’ve faced challenges just like every business faces. When the pandemic came, we were scared to open, fearing that customers wouldn’t come, so we remained closed in 2020. We lost a lot that year, but 2021 was our best year ever, so that was a big blessing. This year is on track to be the same as last year.”

Why visit White Lake Water Park?

“We’ve got a good bit to offer, from a large kiddie pool area with a splash deck, to the beach pool, the swimming pool, the 200 foot long turbo twister slide, the lazy river, and bumper boats. We also have a go-kart track! We’ve got a short order-type grille that serves cheeseburgers, hot dogs, fries, nachos, ice cream, etc, and a gift shop that sells goggles, toys, snacks, bottled drinks, and t-shirts.” – WLKWP Management

The Water Park’s biggest weekend of the year is approaching quickly – July 4th. WLKWP has special plans for the fourth of July, as always! The Hucks shared, “We expect a large crowd, as in years past. We’re open late that day, until 8, and we do lots of giveaways for free day passes, tiki huts, and season passes. We also have free hot dogs and a DJ playing Saturday, Sunday, and Monday!”

White Lake Water Park is open 7 days a week, 10 am to 6 pm. Admission is based on height: over 4′ tall is $18, under 4′ tall is $12. Half price daily after 3 pm (starts at 5 on July 4)! The tiki huts are a big attraction and sell out weeks in advance. Each hut comes with a charcoal grill and picnic tables, perfect for an all day family gathering. The Tiki Hut prices are: small  $37.36, medium $69.39, large: $96.08.
