The East Carolina University, Women’s Roundtable, announced the 2022 Incredible ECU Women Awards recipients. One of the award winners is Elizabethtown native Mary Beth Petteway Eason.

The ECU women’s awards are given out in three-year intervals to graduates who have significantly impacted their communities. The honorees have displayed remarkable leadership, empowerment, perseverance, and balance since graduating from college and are now being recognized for their achievements.

Mary Beth earned an associate’s degree from Peace College in Raleigh and both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from ECU; according to the announcement, after graduation, she joined BB&T, now Truist, through the bank’s Leadership Development Program.

According to the ECU press release, over the next two decades, Mary Beth held numerous roles at Truist Financial Corporation within credit card issuing, payment acquiring (merchant services), and commercial lending. In her current role as Merchant Services Marketing and Sales Enablement Manager for Truist Merchant Services, she is responsible for setting the strategic direction related to market segmentation and opportunities, overseeing client acquisition marketing, sales team education, and banker engagement throughout the Truist footprint. Mary Beth is passionate about helping others in her community and has volunteered in various leadership capacities with not-for-profit organizations. In recent years, she served as President of the Pitt County and Uptown Greenville United Way organizations and as Treasurer of the Pitt County Homebuilders’ Association and Fountain Presbyterian Church.

Mary Beth resides in Greenville with her husband, daughters, and their beloved dog. She is the daughter of Hayes and the late Mary Anne Petteway of Elizabethtown. Her father stated, “As you can imagine, I am very proud of her and know that Mary Anne is “beaming” in Heaven.”

This year’s honorees will be recognized at a luncheon event – celebrating women’s leadership, service, and philanthropy – on Friday, September 23, 2022, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on ECU’s Main Campus at the Student Center Ballroom. Several Bladen County residents plan to attend the event to celebrate Mary Beth’s achievements.
