Good morning! 3 things to know for Saturday, September 5
1. Tabernacle Holiness Church near Council is having a groundbreaking ceremony at 4 p.m. today for its new community center. The church’s official address is 549 Youngstown Road near Riegelwood off N.C. 87.
2. Customers in the Elizabethtown and Dublin areas were without power for a time Friday night as the intense lightning and thunderstorm roared through a bit after 7 o’clock. Could have been other areas affected by outages as well. Talk about a storm coming out of nowhere. The storm played havoc with area high school football games. The East Bladen at St. Pauls game started about 8:45 while the Whiteville at West Bladen game began about 9. Both were scheduled for 7:30 kickoffs.
3. If it seems uncharacteristically quiet tonight in Dublin, it’s because Dublin Motor Speedway is not racing. A week after an amazing show featuring the Ultimate Late Model Series, the track is taking off Labor Day weekend. The cars will be racing next Saturday.
