Two of the eight sex offenders arrested recently in Bladen County for not being in compliance with their N.C. Sex Offender Registry requirements had served time for first degree rape and another had been convicted of attempted rape. The list also included a sexual battery charge and four charges of indecent liberties with a minor, according to records listed in the database.
The people found in non-compliance, along with information from the N.C. Department of Public Safety’s sex offender registry, were:
** Carlton F. Corbett, 53, of Elizabethtown. He was convicted of first degree rape in 1981.
** Gilbert Currie, 59, of Elizabethtown: He was convicted of indecent liberties with a minor in 2002.
** Donnie G. Edwards, 69, of Elizabethtown. He was convicted of indecent liberties with a minor in 2005.
** David W. Gilchrist, 21, of Elizabethtown. He was convicted of indecent liberties with a minor in April 2014.
** Richard McEachern, 45, of Kelly. He was convicted of sexual battery in January 2014.
** Carl L. Rhone, 54, of Elizabethtown. He was convicted of first degree rape in 1981.
** William B. Whitley, 48, of Elizabethtown. He was convicted of attempted rape or attempted sex offense in 1995.
** Lorenzo Wilson Jr., 34, of Elizabethtown. He was convicted of indecent liberties with a minor in 2002.
The recent sweep involved officers from the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force, Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, N.C. Department of Public Safety/Division of Adult Corrections and Juvenile Justice, Elizabethtown Police Department, and Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
In all, officials verified the compliance of 69 registered sex offenders in Bladen County, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. Officers also seized several items of suspected pornographic material, including a laptop computer, as well as drug paraphernalia, the Marshals Service said. Additionally, 13 firearms were seized from offenders who were prohibited from possessing such items.
