• Monday, March 26 was declared Captain Barry Bridger Day in Bladen County. Bridger was released after six years as a POW in Vietnam.
• Capt. Billy Causey of Bladenboro was awarded the Silver Star, The Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star Medal and the Air Medal by Brigadier General Calvert P. Bennett.
• Worth Hester, Elizabethtown Attorney, was named the new Councilor for the North Carolina State Bar in the 13th Judicial District of Bladen, Columbus and Brunswick counties.
