Discovery Hike: Feb. 7, 10 a.m.: Join a park ranger for a hike through the bay forest and “discover” why this environment is unique. Discussion on the hike will include the flora and fauna of the forest, and why Carolina Bays are important. Hikers are encouraged to bring bug spray, water, and hiking shoes.

Animals of Jones Lake: Feb. 14, 2 p.m.: Ever wondered what a black bear looks like up close? How about an bobcat, fox, or even a Great Horned Owl? While not advisable trying to take a close look in the wild, you can see some stuffed ones and learn about the different animals found around the park.

Snakes: Feb. 21, 10 a.m.: Ever wonder what snakes species are at home in eastern North Carolina? Which ones are venomous? Join a park ranger in exploring the various snakes in this area and the other unique species found in North Carolina.

Movie Night: Feb. 28, 6 p.m.: Jones Lake State Park is offering a viewing of an installment of “Planet Earth.” The viewing will be located behind the Visitor Center. Bring the family, chairs, popcorn, and drinks.
