Cape Fear Valley Behavioral Health Care will hold a Community Suicide Prevention Workshop.

The free seminar will be held Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church’s Fellowship Hall. Registration begins at 6 p.m. The seminar will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

John Bigger and Douglas Parrish from Behavioral Health Care are the featured speakers. They will discuss the growing problem of suicide (especially in the military community), its prevention and available community resources.

They will also provide training on the use of the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS). The suicide risk identification scale was developed by Columbia University for use in children, age 12 and older, and adults. It has been used in hospitals, schools, armed forces and many other public health settings.

Studies show the system can reduce suicide rates by 64 percent and has been embraced by education and military leaders.

To pre-register for the workshop, please call (910) 615-1514 or send an email to CFVHealthFoundation@capefearvalley.com.
