Excitement was in the air as Miss Bladenboro, Lindsey Herring, made her debut as a Miss North Carolina Scholarship Pageant festival prelim at the Miss Greater Southeastern Scholarship Pageant last night in Lumberton. Herring and the Executive Directors of Miss Bladenboro, John and Karen Ruffin met with the Miss North Carolina Scholarship Pageant Executive Director, Beth Knox and the Scholarship Chair, McNeil Chestnut.

Knox said, “We are really glad when we were contacted by Bladenboro. Miss Bladenboro makes the 37th title holder in the Miss North Carolina Scholarship Pageant. We are very excited about that.”

Knox continued, “Some of the pageants encompass more than one county. I’m excited to see how the community supports Lindsey. Sometimes the smaller communities show a lot more support for their title holders, than the larger communities. That’s always interesting to me.”

John Ruffin, Miss Bladenboro Co-Executive Director said, “We started the process to be a prelim back in November.” For a pageant to be a festival preliminary to the Miss North Carolina Scholarship Pageant they have to go through an application process. The applying pageant must have an interview, beauty and talent category for their contestants and they must offer a scholarship. A swimsuit category is optional for the pageant to be a preliminary applicant. “Since the Miss North Carolina Scholarship Pageant has a swimsuit category, we may have an optional swim suit category in this year’s pageant to help the contestants get comfortable with the swim suit competition.” Explained Karen Ruffin, Miss Bladenboro Co-Executive Director.

“Our slogan now is, ‘Raleigh bound for the crown’.” The two Directors exclaimed with smiles. “I’m so excited.” Miss Bladenboro, Lindsey Herring said. She continued saying, “I’m so blessed to have this opportunity. This time last year, I had no idea I would be here.” Herring made her debut wearing a gown from Sherri Hill and jewel encrusted, champagne colored shoes by Tony Bowls, purchased at Nikki Couture in Whiteville.
