The Take a 2nd Look Thrift Store located in Elizabethtown is a drop off location for the Toys for Tots program this year. You can bring a new, unwrapped toy and drop it in the box now through December 18.
Toys for Tots is sponsored by the United States Marine Corps. Â Toys are collected from the drop off locations and and distributed to less fortunate children in the community in mid to late December, according to the Toys for Tots website.
Sherrill Elks, owner of Take a 2nd Look Thrift Store, said, “I just got my box today (Wednesday).”
She said those that make a donation of a new, unwrapped toy, will receive a gift certificate good for $10 off of a purchase at the thrift store as a way of saying ‘thank you’ for your donation.
Elks said she was familiar with the program as her husband, Jerry Elks, is a former Marine. Elks said she wanted to be able to help children and spur some traffic to her location, which has been isolated somewhat due to the Us 701 bridge over Brown’s Creek near the NC 87 Bypass remaining closed.
Elks added, “It is a way to give back to the community and a way to help children who otherwise wouldn’t have a Christmas.”
