West Bladen jumped out to a 9-0 lead and cruised to a 17-6 Four County Conference baseball victory over visiting Heide Trask Wednesdaynight.

The Knights sent 12 batters to the plate and banged out 9 hits in a 7-run first inning. Juniors Seth Britt and Jeremy Hunt started the rally with singles, and after 2 were out, seniors Michael Pastore and Colby McLean and juniors Troy Edge and Chandler Lennon delivered 4 consecutive singles.

Sophmore Weston Pidgeon slammed a double, and Britt and Hunt connected for their second hits of the inning.

Sophmore Trent West walked to begin the second inning and McLean reached on an error. After Lennon walked, Pidgeon cracked a 2-out single that pushed the lead to 9-0.

The Titans plated a single run in the third, then capitalized on a pair of errors to trim the lead to 9-4 in the fourth.

West Bladen answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth.  Edge drew a walk, and Lennon sliced a double to left field. Pidgeon reached on an error that upped the count to 11-4.

In the Knight fifth inning, West walked, and junior Ray Jones reached base on a fielder’s choice. Both runners scored when McLean crushed a triple to left-centerfield that extended the lead to 13-4.

Trask scored twice in the top of the sixth, but West Bladen ended the game with 4 runs in the bottom of the inning. Senior Joseph Miller reached base on an error, and senior Trevor Lesane walked. West beat out an infield hit, and Jones walked.

McLean smacked a single, before Edge walloped a 2-run triple to end the game on the run-rule.

McLean batted 3-5 with the triple to lead the Knight hitters. Lennon batted a perfect 2-2 with a double. Edge slugged the 2-run triple and batted 2-3. Pidgeon was 2-3 at the plate with a double.

Britt, Hunt and West all batted 2-3, and Pastore and senior Mason Hester added one-hit each to the 17-hit Knight attack.

Lennon pitched the first 4 innings to pick up the victory, striking out 4 and allowing 5 hits and 4 runs. Hester struck out 3 Titans in his 2 innings of relief.

West Bladen improves to 2-1 in the league and 4-1 overall.
