Thoughts While ShavingSchool begins for over 300 area students on Tuesday, August 1 at the new Emereau Charter School, located on Airport Road, east of Elizabethtown. A recent Open House and ribbon cutting attracted a large crowd.

Bladen County public school students begin the 2017 school year August 29 and Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy, located on MLK Drive in Elizabethtown, will be begin the new school year soon, as well.

Spent some time yesterday catching up on The Optimist International Junior Golf Championship Tournaments underway in Florida, primarily because an Elizabethtown junior golfer teed off this morning in the 16-18 age group. Cade Hancock is one of 155 golfers in that age group. The 4 day tournament is held at the PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Tournament play has been ongoing since mid July beginning at 10 years of age for boys and girls. Cade was scheduled to begin play shortly before 8 AM this morning. His foursome included players from New Hampshire, Florida, and Iowa. Golfers from about 20 countries are participating, including 11 from the Tar Heel state. A girls tournament for ages 15-18 is also underway this week.

Football practice at East and West Bladen begins tomorrow, check with coaches for details. Coach Robbie Priest indicated EB football gear is available , deadline is Thursday, August 3. Call for more details at 919-419-0839.

The weather yesterday was like two different days, dark, rainy, dreary in the AM, and beautiful in the PM.
