Abby WaltersSALISBURY – Bladenboro native Abbey Walters pitched all eight innings Monday in the second game of a double-header as her UNC-Pembroke Lady Braves outlasted No. 17 Catawba 8-6 in non-conference softball action.

Walters allowed 4 earned runs on 11 hits and 2 walks, while striking out four as she raised her record to 3-1 on the season. It was Walters’ second complete game victory over Catawba this season.

At the plate Walters batted 4-8 in the double-header with a run batted in and a run scored.

Catawba won Monday’s first game by a 6-1 score. Walters knocked in the only UNC-Pembroke run of the game with a seventh-inning single.

In the nightcap, Walters raked a first-inning single through the left side and scored on Toni Nelson’s 3-run homer. The West Bladen grad smacked a single to centerfield in the third inning.

Walters beat out an infield hit in the fifth inning to finish 3-4 at the plate in Game 2 and raise her batting average to .473.

UNC-Pembroke, now 11-8-1, will host Peach Belt foe Francis Marion Wednesday in a double-header that will begin at 3 p.m.
